How do I fire?
Tap the gun, choose At him or At yourself (or swipe up or down), then press and hold the trigger until the ring fills. Lift early to stop. Put down backs out. Nothing ever fires on a single tap.
What happens when I fire at myself?
A blank keeps your turn. A live shell blows out one of your candles and passes the turn. Firing at him always passes the turn, live or blank.
How do items work?
From round II, items are dealt to both sides with each load. Tap one to read its card, then tap its verb (Look, Read, Pull, Strike, Drink, Pack, Chain, Turn). You can use as many as you like before you fire. Tap his items to read them too. How to play in the game covers all nine.
He takes too long.
Keep a finger on the table during his turn and he moves faster. A tap finishes a line or skips a banner.
How do I open Deeper?
Win a night: all three rounds against the Purser. Deeper then appears on the title.
Why isn’t my Deeper run on the board?
Only dives that surface go on the board, and only dives started while online are ranked: the server checks every move. A dive started offline still plays, unranked.
How do I play a friend?
Choose Play someone → Invite a friend and send them the six-letter code (the share button sends a link too). They choose Play someone → Join with a code. A code works once and expires after 30 minutes. Quick match pairs you with whoever is waiting; if nobody comes within 20 seconds, the Purser sits down.
I lost connection in a match.
The game reconnects by itself. If you closed the app, the title offers Back to your match for a while. If you stall twice in a row or are away for a minute, the Purser takes your seat, and you can take it back.
Does it work offline?
Nights against the Purser and Deeper dives play with no connection. The board and playing someone need one.
How do I delete my online name?
On the title, open Settings → Forget my online name. It deletes your profile and your board entries from our server. Details are in the privacy policy.
Can I turn off the shake and flash?
Yes: Settings → Reduced motion. It follows your iPhone’s Reduce Motion setting the first time you play.
